Scandinavian Scribe Work

The finest log construction in the industry is the Scandinavian full scribe. These pictures show the nice tight fit between the logs. Some companies will use a log with a bow in it and band the logs together when scribing. The band pushes the logs together. It is assumed that the weight of the roof and other logs will eventually hold the logs together. Rustics does not take this risk - we will not band. If a log does fit properly, it is discarded. NO BANDING.

When starting a new round, a log will be set on top of the last round, and scribed so that when it is cut, it will fit perfectly on top of the last log.

When a Scandinavian scribe is used, it not only offers a beautiful look, but will also save you in caulk or chinking costs. Only a small bead of caulk will be required in each of the Scandinavian scribed seams.
